Get Involved with NSELA - Apply to be on the Board of Directors!

Interested in volunteering with NSELA? Here are just a few reasons why you should say YES to applying to being on the Board of Directors:

  • You can express your ideas, use your skills and abilities, and enjoy the company of others who appreciate your ideas.
  • It’s an opportunity to be part of something that benefits you, your organization, and your career
Right now, applications are available for Region A Director, Region C Director, and President-Elect! Information can be found here and applications close November 15th!
 
Regional Directors attend monthly virtual board meetings, communicate through informational newsletters to the NSELA members within their region, and bring back information from the region to the NSELA board for consideration. Regional Directors serve a 3-year term. According to the Bylaws, Regional Directors shall be elected only by the members who reside in that region. Candidates must reside or work in the region for which they have been nominated.
The President-Elect serves a 3-year term, first as president-elect, then as president, then as past-president. All three positions within the presidential chain involve meeting with the executive committee and with the board each month, serving on committees of choice, communicating with members, and working on various NSELA projects as needed. According to the Bylaws, to be nominated, the president-elect must have been a member of NSELA for 3 years.

Do you know of an administrator who supports K-16 Science Education? If so, consider nominating this person for the Outstanding Administrative Support Award (OASA). This prestigious award recognizes and honors an outstanding administrator who, through his/her professional work, has demonstrated exemplary support for science education at the school, district, higher education, and/or county level. This award honors an administrator whose primary responsibility is outside the area of science instruction. The nomination must be made by an NSELA member.
 
The Outstanding Leadership in Science Education Award (OLISE) recognizes and NSELA member who through their professional work, has demonstrated outstanding leadership in science education at the school, district, county, regional, and/or national level. Consider nominating yourself or a colleague for this award.

Worth checking out if your district is renovating or has new construction for science labs. Also make sure you check out your own state’s facilities standards.
